Imagine being given a long week off from work, where would you want to go? Ah, the beach! Is there any better place as quite relaxing, peaceful and beautiful than being out in the sun facing the beach? Sometimes I wonder what was I in my past life. Maybe I was a mermaid because I cannot explain the kind of happiness the ocean gives me. I get so ecstatic even just thinking about enjoying a day at the beach. There must be some scientific explanation for this, why going to the beach makes us all feel good.

Well, the ocean helps us recharge our energy from being too drained from work. Below are reasons why the sea is also named ‘vitamin sea’.

Sea water is a free anti-aging agent

Not all anti-aging ingredients come from the lab. Some of the most effective weapons against wrinkles and sagging skin come from the sea. Sea water supports soft and smooth skin as studies have shown that it reduces the appearance of wrinkles leaving the skin looks vibrant and young.

Sunshine is a good source of Vitamin D

Sun bathing has another purpose than getting the perfect tan you desire. 80 to 90 percent of the daily vitamin D needed by your body comes from sun exposure. One just have to be very careful since too much sun exposure can also lead to skin cancer. About 10 minutes of unprotected sun bathing is doable however it still depends on what skin type or color you have. It is best to consult an expert.

Also, sunlight has been observed to decrease depression. A study conducted by the Baker Health Research Institute in Melbourne, Australia found that sunlight exposure can increase serotonin level, a neurotransmitter tagged as one of the ‘happy’ hormones. This gives a positive effect on stress, sleep and appetite.

Sea water increases circulation

Go out and swim. Swimming in the ocean is a good exercise. It aids in blood circulation and even helps in skin cell regeneration. The minerals from the water support your skin to regenerate and grow healthy new skin cells. The result is a firmer, younger and more fair skin.

The sand is a natural exfoliant

Walking barefoot on wet sand exfoliates dead skin cells from your heels. It’s like having a free foot spa while enjoying the scenic view of the ocean. And did you know that there are over 200,000 nerve endings on the soles of your feet and walking barefoot on the sand stimulates them, strengthening all the muscles in your feet.

Take a moment to see the wondrous creations of God- the sea, the sand, and the sky. Taste the delicious fresh seafoods being prepared for your appetite’s delight. Smell the salty breeze that can do so many wonders in giving your whole system a feeling of relaxation. Touch the sand and everything that the nature gets to offer. Finally, hear the sound of the waves as it hit the shore like a music to your ears.

Relax. Feel the gentle wind blowing and meditate. It will make you feel a lot better, trust me. Life is good only if you live it well.
